From the manufacturer, the characters of the film are as follows:

Sue Ann/Ma, portrayed by Octavia Spencer, is a complex character with many layers. She is an isolated, disturbed woman with a secret trauma in her past.

Maggie, played by Diana Silvers, is the new 15-year-old kid at school, eager to make friends. When Haley and the rest of the gang ask Maggie to get Sue Ann to buy them booze, Maggie complies.

Erica, Maggie's mother, is played by Juliette Lewis. Erica is divorced and forced to return to her hometown. Now a single mom, she takes a job as a cocktail waitress at the local casino, where she runs into people from her past, including Sue Ann.

Haley, portrayed by McKaley Miller, is the wild-child alpha of her group, and she loves to party. She and the rest of her friends are indisputably the cool kids. Haley is all-in when it comes to going to Sue Ann's house... at first.

Andy, played by Corey Fogelmanis, is earnest and kind, even if, like most teenagers, he tends to be oblivious to the very real dangers around him. He's also the son of local businessman Ben, played by Luke Evans, who shares a history with Sue Ann, unknown to Andy and his friends.

Darrell, portrayed by Dante Brown, has a sarcastic side and often calls people on their nonsense. He is warier of Sue Ann than the rest of the group when they first meet her, but he quickly lets down his guard... eventually to his peril.

Chaz, played by Gianni Paolo, is a guy who loves to party and is completely down to hang out at Ma's. He is the bad boy of the group, a little too cocky for his own good.

Ben, portrayed by Luke Evans, runs a successful security company and is Andy's father. He is proud of Andy but keeps close tabs on him. Widowed when Andy was younger, Ben has deep roots in his community and went to high school with Sue Ann and Erica.
